Amritsar Medical College Alumni Association (AMCAA) : An Introduction
Alumni are very important resource of an institution and can contribute tremendously in the up-liftment of the institution. Illustrious alumni can also make the institution proud by excelling in their respective fields and also act as a role model for the future generations. The institution/ alma mater has a great role in shaping the future of an individual. Excellent institutions produce excellent human resource and the alumni try to give back something to the alma mater.
Amritsar Medical College Alumni Association was registered on 8th May 2000 with registration no. ASR/26 of 2000-2001 under registration of societies act (XXI) of 1860 and the governing council of the association was constituted comprising of following members under the chairmanship of Dr.B.L.Goyal and having following members: Dr. Inderjit Singh Shergill, Dr. Prem Arora ,Dr. Sudarshan Aggarwal,Dr. Kirpal Kaur, Dr. Hardas Singh, Dr. Santokh Singh, Dr. A S Padda, Dr. Amrik Singh Multani, Dr. Neeti Rajan Singh, Dr. Amrik Singh Arora, Dr. Bhupinder Singh , Dr. Rakesh Bharti , Dr. P. Sareen, Dr. Samir Rai.
At present the life membership of AMCAA stands at more than 550 members. Now that AMCAA has established foothold and people are showing increasing interest.
Aims and Objectives
This society is non political, non sectarian and non religious association with the following aims and objectives:
- To work for establishment, improvement and betterment of medical education and health care services.
- To endeavor to improve the teaching standards, patient care, working environment and facilities, academic and research facilities, sports and cultural activities in the institution.
- To organize periodic meetings, seminars, conferences, academic lectures and scientific exhibitions and other teaching and academic oriented activities.
- To arrange and promote activities to receive and give grants, subscriptions, donations, gifts, scholarships and awards etc. in pursuance of main objective of association i.e. improvement and betterment of Govt. Medical College and hospitals attached to it.
- To promote activities to enroll membership to this association from amongst the alumni and other persons, within India as well as overseas, on payment of membership subscription/fee etc. as per rules and regulations of this association.
- To make rules and regulations for the enrolment of members, arrangement of meetings of the association, selection of office bearers, conduct of affairs and finances of association and to adapt and vary them from time to time in furtherance and in accordance to the aims and objectives of association.
- To invest, purchase, buy, build, sell, lease, exchange, mortgage, transfer, receive as gift or disburse funds and assets of the association or raise loans in the name of the association and in pursuance of the aims and objectives of the association and in accordance to the rules and regulations laid therein.
- To negotiate and execute conveyances, agreements, bonds, memorandums etc. with any government, private or charitable agency, in respect of activities, assets and funds of the association for the purpose of enhancement of the receipts or disbursements or otherwise as the case may be, in pursuance of the enhancement of aims and objectives of association.
- To appoint on order to execute any instrument or transact any business of the association, any person as attorney of the association with such powers as may be deemed fit.
- To enter into agreement with central government or state government agencies/departments, other private or charitable agencies, institutions, firms or organizations etc., from within the India or overseas, for receiving grants, donations, machinery, equipment, medicines, materials, scholarships and fellowships etc. and to arrange training programs, academic, research, sports and cultural activities etc. in pursuance of the aims and objectives of the association.
- To delegate all or any of the powers to the Chairman/office bearer of association or to any committee or subcommittee or any member of its Governing Council or any other person as may be deemed fit for the furtherance of the activities of the association in pursuance of the aims and objectives.
- To do all such acts and things as may be required in order to further the objects of the association.
- To take over assets and/or activities of any charitable trust/society/organization/body/person for the advancements of the objects of the association.
Contributions:
The AMCAA at its stage of infancy has tried to make contribution towards the institution from its meager resources. Following contributions have been made by alumni which is a small step towards a great leap for helping our alma mater :
- R.O. plant in dialysis unit, Deptt. Of Nephrology donated by Prof Darbari Lal, Ex Deputy Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
- Ultrasound machine in Gynae deptt. by Dr. Santokh Singh, Retired Prof., Surgery
- Slit lamp in Eye deptt. by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Daljit Singh.
- Medigym by Batch 1950-55, spearheaded by Dr. Hardas Singh Sandhu, Dr. V.P.Lakhanpal and Dr. Radhe Shyam.
- BP Apparatus and stethoscopes for students in Physiology Deptt.
- Upgradation of surgery department.
- Upgradation of Paediatrics department: NICU/PICU.
- Upgardation of Emergency department.
- Upgradation of operation theatre.
- Updgradation of Orthopaedics Departent by Dr.Gurdev singh Gill, renowned orthopedician from USA.
- Upgradation of laboratory jointly with AMDAANA
- Furnishing of common rooms in hostels.
- Maintenance of cleanliness of campus with special efforts from Dr Sushil Kumar Gupta.
- A web site has been launched- www.amcaa.org.in
In this direction AMDAANA has made following contributions:
- Upgradation of ICU.
- Multimedia and A-V systems installed in all lecture theatres.
- Computers and printers have been made available.
